At Swift Nature Camp, we carry
on the tradition of Ernie Swift, who strove to
preserve and teach environmental awareness. Ernie
began as a Conservation Department Warden who
eventually rose to serve as the department's
director. He was appointed by President Eisenhower
as assistant director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service and later became Executive Director of the
National Wildlife Federation.

Meet the Directors
The Wisconsin summer camp was
founded in 1964 by the Department of Natural
Resources (DNR) as part of the Youth Conservation
Corp. Today, under the guidance of Directors Jeff
& Lonnie Lorenz, the nature camp offers boys
and girls traditional summer camp activities along
with an environmental focus. While the property and
facilities are still owned and managed by the
Wisconsin DNR, Lorenz and their team have developed
a Fun, active and educational program within a camp
setting. An active Nature Center, Pet Zoo and DNR
sponsored programs along with host of recreational
activities including: Canoe & Backpack Trips,
Horses, Swimming, Arts & Crafts, Team Course,
Archery, Sailing, Skiing, Tubing and Sports
Activities create a well-rounded summer camp
experience for children ages 6-15.

"Our goal is give children the
opportunity to BE in nature first hand and
ultimately develop a heart felt reason to preserve
and protect it." Jeff says. "Thereby continuing the
legacy of Ernie Swift".
