A Summer Camp OPEN HOUSE is a great way to learn about a summer camp. It gives parents and kids alike a chance to ask questions and feel comfortable with their camp decision.
At Swift Nature Camp, we usually have nearly 50 campers and parents attending. It is a great time to meet other campers and Staff! We will play games and answer any last minute questions you might have about camp, it's perfect as a "getting to know you time" before camp starts. If you are still not sure if Swift is the place for you this summer stop on by, we love to talk about Swift Nature Camp.

WHEN: Monday May 30th
TIME: 2pm-4pm
WHERE: Willowbrook Wildlife Center ( you can get directions below)

We hope you can make it to this fun program. Please dress for the weather. If you have any questions call us at 630-654-8036.

Camp Friends

Visit: Summer Camps100_6488
For those who have been around Swift for some time, you know camp friends are unlike any other friends. Last week when we were in Minneapolis we had Jess (now living in AZ) stop by and visit. Jess has been involved with camp since she was 18. Now 10 years later she looked back fondly at all that she had accomplished at Swift. From Water Front to Assistant Director. She did it all. This is why we love Swift so ...it’s great to see folks grow and develop at camp...

If you went to overnight camp as a child you can always tell a favorite story you can still remember in exact detail, down to the smell of that pine forest. Memories of summer camp are lifelong reminders of lessons with a lifetime’s worth of value with friends you haven’t forgotten.

Ellen has a new cause which all in the child profession or with kids must take note. It’s to Stop Bullying. She devastated by the death of 18-year-old Tyler Clementi. If you don't know, Tyler was a bright student at Rutgers University whose life was senselessly cut short. He was bullied on the internet and when he could not take it any longer he took his own life..

Just last week it was camper Mathew’s birthday. Forrest was invited to go play with him at Safari Land an indoor amusement park. When it came to cake he did not have to “dance around the room” :( We all had a great time. Needles to Say Forrest got him the La+La Lasagna song along with some legos.... Click to see more photos.

Outside Play

Visit: Swift Nature Camp Website
summer_camp_1967-tbLET’S GO PLAY OUTSIDE
These days parents heavily schedule their children making it more difficult for children to get outside and play. It seems as parents, we give much more importance to technology than nature. After all do your kids see you more at the computer screen or taking a walk in Nature? Enough Said! Kids folllow their parent examples and it is estimated that most children spend nearly 6 hours a day in front of some sort of screen.

Famed author Richard Louv, of Last Child in the Woods: is alarmed by this untouching of nature. He calls it Nature-deficit disorder and sad situation in child development. He feels there is a link between lack of outdoor play and and increase in obesity, attention disorders, and depression.

Summer Camp is just one place that can help children learn to appreciate nature as well as teach children independence and friendship....
